New Optical Express eye clinic opens in Maidstone

Eye care experts Optical Express are opening a community based ophthalmology clinic in Maidstone, bringing the latest ophthalmic vision correction solutions to the area.

Patients attending the new clinic will have access through their patient pathway to world leading diagnostic machinery designed by Johnson & Johnson Vision and Zeiss. Optical Express will offer every patient a free consultation for laser or lens surgery, which carries a private professional value of £100. The detailed consultation, which assesses each patient’s candidacy for laser or lens surgery, includes a comprehensive eye health check and includes full and detailed discussions with expert clinicians.

Based in the new Turkey Mill business park development, the new clinic will provide easy access to eye care expertise for residents of Maidstone and surrounding towns and villages. The clinic replaces a former Optical Express retail and refractive consultation clinic based in the Mall Shopping Centre.

The new Maidstone clinic forms part of a significant programme of investment delivered by Optical Express in Kent this year. This month the eye care provider is also opening a leading-edge state-of-the-art ophthalmology clinic in Dartford Crossways, offering laser eye, Intraocular Lens (IOL) and cataract surgery. The new facilities represent a £3 million investment in Kent and new specialist optometry and ophthalmology jobs in the area.

Bilal Ahmad, Regional Director, said:

“Our team are so excited to start work at the new clinic in Maidstone. I’m very proud that we can help to transform people’s lives with vision correction surgery, and I’m keen to speak to as many local people as possible in Maidstone. Glasses and contact lenses carry so many risks that patients often aren’t aware of, and in the long term they are so expensive too. Helping to educate patients so they can make informed choices about their vision treatment is one of the most rewarding aspects of the job!”

Stephen Hannan, Clinical Services Director at Optical Express, said:

“Offering a first-class experience to our patients is always our main objective, so it’s fantastic to be doing this in state of the art facilities at the new clinic. Access to clinical care, advanced equipment and the experience of our team are just some of the reasons why we’re the number one complete eye care provider in the UK.  We encourage anyone who has an interest in improving their vision to come for a consultation.  The outcomes, as determined by our clinicians and patients alike, from our private laser and Intraocular lens procedures are truly life enhancing.  One of our unique advantages is the ability to offer patients all forms of vision correction surgery within a short period of time.  Patients on an NHS waiting list for example can fast-track their surgery privately in weeks.”

David Moulsdale, Optical Express, Chairman and CEO, said:

“This new clinic in Maidstone will hugely benefit our patients and the local economy. We are determined that our response to coronavirus will be to continue to expand and invest in our excellent clinics. We’re aiming to retain and attract the very best local talent, and are recruiting for a variety of roles, including optometrists and managers, across the country.”
